Mahnomen City Council News & Notes from May 18th Meeting

Mahnomen, MN -- The Mahnomen City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Monday night, May 18th as well as a virtual town hall via Facebook prior to the meeting. Mahnomen City Administrator Mitch Berg says the virtual town, which included himself, the Mayor, and the White Earth Police Chief, was an overwhelming success. Berg says it was a great opportunity for the police chief to address some of the issues in the community, specifically drug use.

During the regular meeting, the Mahnomen City Council approved a rezoning for Olson’s Outdoor Sports. Administrator Berg says they’ve purchased a nearby lot to accommodate for more space.

In regards to COVID-19, the city of Mahnomen is continuing to provide assistance to local businesses, the Mahnomen Health Center has been provided funding to help with increased costs, and the city library is slowly opening back up to the public, according to Berg.

Berg also noted that soon the council will begin meeting in person again, but in a new location to accommodate for better social distancing.

The Mahnomen City Council also approved purchasing a new phone system and approved 10-year Water Tower service agreement with KLM Engineering. The council meets next on Monday, June 1st.
