Norman County West School Board Recap from May 15th Meeting

Hendrum, MN -- The Norman County West School board with a 4-2 vote approved the resolution placing teachers on unrequested leaves of absence, which is the final step In this process according to Superintendent Dr. Shawn Yates. As the Superintendent spoke with Jim Birkemeyer from R & J News, he also shared the school board action non the Non-Renewal of probationary staff and the Memorandum of understanding regarding.
The board approved their preliminary budget for 2018-19 school year. Including maintenance of the high school building, the district is planning for a balanced budget. Norman County West Superintendent spoke with Jim Birkemeyer of R & J News about the budget.
Progress is continuing for the Valley Innovative Group. Superintendent Yates reports that the last few hurdles are being overcome and the focus is now on finding a director.
The Norman County West School Board also got an update from their Activities Director McKeag Borne. Yates says he is suggesting the board look into potentially pairing with Ada-Borup for the elementary sports in the future.
The Norman County West School will continue to offer their own summer rec program for the time being.
The Norman County West School board also held a special meeting on Monday night to meet with a member of the Minnesota School Board Association. Jim Birkemeyer with R & J News had this interview with board chairman Peter Jacobson to discuss the Monday night meeting and also the information that came to the regular board meeting on Tuesday night concerning the Superintendent search for Norman County West.
