Fertile, MN -- The Fertile City Council had a lengthy regular monthly meeting on Monday night, lasting well over two hours. One of the biggest issues addressed earlier this week was a proposed ordinance amendment that would require landlords to be responsible for the utility bills of their rental property. City Administrator Lisa Liden says they had a public hearing where many of the rental property owner spoke out against the proposed amendment.
The council also received an update on the sewer and water project. Administrator Liden says right now they are playing the waiting game to see if and when they can get funding.
The Fertile City Council did decide that they no longer wanted to wait for a resident to take down an old building. Liden says there are going to take matters into their own hands.
And to address an issue of speeding on certain city streets, the council gave the go ahead to put in a pair of 4 way stop signs on Main Avenue.
The Fertile City Council also approved street closures and liquor licenses for the Polk County Fair and appointed election judges. More news from this month’s council meeting later this week.
