Essentia Health Fosston Has New Screening Tool For Breast Cancer Detection
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer happens when normal cells in the breast change and grow out of control. Women sometimes discover they have breast cancer because they find a lump in one of their breasts. Breast cancer is much more common in women than men. But men can get the disease. Breast cancer sometimes runs in families. Kristina Leonard, Nurse Practitioner from Essentia Health in Fosston talks about the benefits of breast cancer screening and early detection.
Different experts have different recommendations for screening. Starting at the age of 40 you should talk with your health care provider about when you should get screened. Some women who are at high risk of breast cancer might need to begin screening at a younger age.
Leonard says Essentia Health in Fosston has 3-D Mammography, a new screening tool for breast cancer detection.
