Red Lake Falls, MN -- Get ready to kick cancer’s butt this weekend during the 14th annual Diane Brumwell Memorial Hoops for Hope in Red Lake Falls. This event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years towards cancer research. It features a charity basketball tournament, silent auction, bean bag tournament, and more. Jason Brumwell of the Hoops for Hope Foundation says they’re kicking off the event tonight with a Burrito Bowl fundraiser.
The basketball tournament gets underway on Saturday, but Brumwell says there will be other events such as a silent auction and bean bag tournament for those who aren’t interested in hoops.
Sunday will feature the championship games, raffle drawings, and the closing of the silent auction at 2pm. This year’s silent auction will feature many unique items including numerous autographed sports items such as a Neil Broten signed Team USA jersey, Kyle Rudolph jersey, basketballs signed by famous legendary coaches, Jim Carrey, President Carter, and Dolly Parton signed photos, wildlife paintings, artwork, camping and outdoor equipment, and much more. You can see the full list online at www.hoopsforhopefoundation.com.
Brumwell says what’s unique about Hoops for Hope is that the competition to raise money for cancer often outweighs the competition to win the basketball tournament.
All the proceeds from this weekend’s Hoops for Hope goes to the Jimmy V Foundation and 100% of all those funds are used for cancer research.
