Ada, MN -- This past weekend was Take A Kid Fishing Weekend, but the Benedictine Living Community will be doing just the opposite of that for a special outing tomorrow. With help from an organization called Let’s Go Fishing- Detroit Lakes, they’ll be taking a group of seniors out for a fishing trip. Cassie Visser of the Benedictine Living Community says this is a popular trip for their residents.
In 2017, we interviewed David Hochhalter, who is one the founders of Let’s Go Fishing – Detroit Lakes. Hochhalter says one of the great things about their organization is being able to take people out fishing who for whatever reason don’t have the ability.
Hochhalter notes that thanks to the excellent panfish population in the Detroit Lakes area, they almost always catch fish on their trips.
Let’s Go Fishing – Detroit Lakes was founded in 2008 and went on 10 trips that year. In 2018, they took 130 trips for seniors, veterans, youth, and physically disabled.
