Thousands of Student-Athletes Compete at State Clay Target Shoot in Alexandria

Alexandria, MN -- Thousands of student-athletes from across the great state of Minnesota have converged on Alexandria to find out who’s the best marksman or markswoman. The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Trap Shooting Championship was kicked off Monday and will continue through June 18th with hundreds of schools represented over the course of the nine day event to square off for a chance to compete at the State Tournament. John Nelson, USA Clay Target League President, says the amount of growth this sport and this event has seen over the last 9 years is incredible.
One of the most astonishing statistics with the Clay Target League is that with that over 50 million trigger pulls, there have zero reported injuries. Nelson adds that Trap Shooting is the safest sport out there.
This event in Alexandria is the largest youth shooting event in the world. As to why trap shooting is popular in this state, Nelson adds that shooting sports is part of our heritage.
With thousands of student-athletes, coaches, and parents attending the shoot, Nelson notes that this event has grown into an all out festival.
This week’s Championship in Alexandria is actually a qualifying event for the State Tournament, which will be held on June 21st in Prior Lake.
