84th Northwest Water Carnival Begins Friday

Detroit Lakes, MN -- The 84th annual Northwest Water Carnival blasts off today in Detroit Lakes. The Water Carnival is 10 days of fun on the shores of Detroit Lakes hosted by the local Jaycees Organization. Water Carnival Admiral Brian Anderson talks more about the event and the Jaycees Organization.
There are dozens of events planned over the next 10 days, including kids activities on the beach, bike tours, bed races, tug-o-war, disc golf, demo derby, and lots of live music. There will be a kickoff party tonight featuring the music of Tripwire. Anderson highlights some of the key activities scheduled over the next week.
Next weekend will feature two days big musical acts as part of their Bash on the Beach. On Friday, July 19th, Hairball and the Metallica Tribute band One will take the stage and on Saturday, July 20th it will be Eve 6 and Smash Mouth’s turn to rock the stage in front of the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. Next Sunday, the Water Carnival wraps up with one their most iconic events, the Parade of the Northwest.
