NC Extension Educator Advises Consumers to be Cautious of Food Labels

Ada, MN -- Consumers in recent years have made conscious decisions to buy products that are healthier for them and their environment, but often times companies take advantage of that market trend and brand their product in a way that misleads consumers. Words like “Natural, Non-GMO, Gluten Free, and Organic” dominate the isles of the grocery stores, but those labels can often be misleading. Norman County Extension Educator Heidi Purrington encourages people to pay attention to what they’re buying before they end up paying more for the same product.

GMO’s have taken lots of heat over the last couple years, but Purrington says its all unwarranted as they’re perfectly safe and necessary to help feed the world.
