Gary, MN -- The City of Gary is looking for input from residents, area township members, and alumni on the direction they’d like to see the city take with the now vacant Norman County East elementary building. Surveys have been mailed out, but online surveys are also available. Gary Mayor Kari Krischbaum says they’re looking at a couple of options specifically: repurpose the building or recommend demolition.
The estimated cost of demolition including asbestos abatement is between $150,000 and $200,000, which would be paid for by the school. If the city of Gary were to take control and repurpose the building, Mayor Kirschbaum says they do have some funding options available.
You can find the survey online at www.garymn.com. The deadline to submit it is Wednesday, October 9th at 9am. All residents, businesses, surrounding townships residents, and alumni are welcome to participate.
