Families Flocking Fargo-Moorhead Creates Boom for Hawley Elementary

Hawley, MN -- The Hawley School District is seeing a major boom in recent years as young couples are moving out of the Fargo-Moorhead area to settle down in the friendly, Hawley community. Now those couple are starting families and it’s forced the Hawley elementary to expand its early childhood offerings. In need of more space, Elementary Principal Chris Ellingson says they recently purchased an old church building and have converted that to host their preschool program.
The Hawley School District runs their PreK through their Community Ed program, so there is a fee of $150 a month to participate. Ellingson notes that the fee hasn’t deterred anyone yet as they currently have a waiting list.
The enrollment for future also looks positive as more and more families continue to flock from Fargo-Moorhead into the comforts of a small town.
In addition to all day preschool twice a week, the Hawley Early Childhood also offers a 3 hour, 3 year old offering on Fridays to help acclimate the youngest students into the learning environment.
